Podcast fandom in Europe: Audio audiences’ participation in a digital context

Podcasts are an increasingly popular form of sound media that generate active listeners and fandom around them. These programmes present an opportunity for scholars to analyse not only new forms of consumption around convergent and on-demand media, but also the particular phenomenon of fandom related to audio productions in the current digital context. Scholars have mainly focused on studying how fandoms use podcasts to create content rather than on podcast fandoms. This paper analyses podcast fandoms in Europe, what distinguishes them from other active audiences, and how they engage with this digital media through online tools. To explore this, a method of triangulation is used, relying on content and netnography analysis, and both top-down and bottom-up strategies are considered across the biggest European markets. Results show that around a third of the podcasts in the sample have an active fandom that engages with these programmes through social media, primarily on Instagram, through the creation of content. This content usually highlights the brand identity of the podcasts through the creation of fan art and fan accounts, and that there are more consistencies across European fandoms than exist across European audiences. This suggests that social media sites, and particularly Instagram, are used by fandoms across Europe in an equivalent way to extend their textual productivity and that this is still what distinguishes audiences from fans. These findings have important implications for scholars and producers alike, both to build upon the knowledge of reception and fan studies and to understand how to encourage fandom engagement on social media sites

El Marte español, Guzmán by Juan de Benavides: a forgotten text and playwright

Se estudia en este artículo una olvidada comedia, El Marte español, Guzmán de Juan de Benavides, un dramaturgo que escribió en la primera mitad del siglo xvii. Su biografía está enmarañada en un conflicto de identidades, ya que se constata la existencia de varios dramaturgos con el mismo apellido. En cuanto a la comedia objeto de estudio en este trabajo, Benavides toma como modelo algunos fragmentos de la Jerusalén conquistada de Lope de Vega relativos a la Tercera Cruzada, en los que se mezcla la historia y la ficción. Destaco la importancia dada al personaje de Ismenia, reina de Chipre; se trata de una mujer que, por amor, se disfraza de varón, sin perder su feminidad, en una sociedad, como la del siglo xvii, regida por unas convenciones sociales masculinas.This article studies a forgotten comedy, El Marte español, Guzmán by Juan de Benavides, a playwright who wrote during the first half of the 17th century. His biography presents a very difficult conflict of overlapping identities, as the existence of several playwrights having the same surname has been proved. Regarding the comedy object of study here, Benavides used as his source some fragments from the Jerusalén conquistada by Lope de Vega, i. e. those dealing in the Third Crusade and blending history and fiction. I will emphasize the relevance given to the character of Ismenia, Queen of Cyprus. She is a woman who, out of love, disguises herself as a man, without losing her femininity, in a society such as the one typical of the 17th century, governed by man-made social convention

Caracterización molecular de nanoportadores de fármacos mediante espectroscopía intensificada por plasmones localizados: Fluorescencia (SEF) y Raman (SERS)

The combined application of SERS (Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering) and SEF (Surface Enhanced Fluorescence) to the molecular characterization of druǵs nanocarriers based on silver colloids is here shown for the antitumoral drug emodin, and the Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs indomethacin and ketorolac. The system >silver nanoparticles-emodin> was subsequently embedded in porous silicon and the new system also characterized. HERRAMIENTAS MATEMÁTICAS APLICADAS A LA DETERMINACIÓN ANALÍTICA DE LA FUNCIÓN DE COSTOS DE UNA EMPRESA

La función de costos de una empresa, determina el monto de la erogación necesaria para obtener los distintos niveles de producción de un determinado bien.En este trabajo se analiza el comportamiento de la función de costos de una empresa suponiendo la existencia de dos insumos variables, permitiendo la existencia de otros factores o insumos fijos, bajo la condición “ceteris paribus”. Se modela matemáticamente el problema empleando una función de producción continua de dos variables con derivadas parciales de primero y segundo orden también continuas.Se utilizan las curvas de nivel asociadas a estas funciones de dos variables para representar los diferentes niveles de producto total y costo total, conforme a las distintas combinaciones de insumo elegidas. Se determinará gráficamente el llamado “sendero de expansión” de la empresa a largo plazo. Combinando en cada uno de estos puntos, el valor de la línea de isocoste con el nivel de la isocuanta tangente, se obtendrán los distintos puntos de la función de costo total de la empresa. Se emplearán herramientas del cálculo diferencial para funciones de varias variables, donde se constatará analíticamente la condición de equilibrio

TV news and social audience in Europe (EU5) : on-screen and twitter strategies

Social networks have altered how viewers watch television and consume information. This new context has obliged broadcasters to adapt their practices to reach viewers in all platforms. In this article, we focus on how the evening news programmes from the general-interest DTT channels in the five main European markets (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom) appeal to their social audience. This concept, although ambiguous, refers to the activity of viewers on social networks in relation to the contents broadcast by the television industry in its multiple forms. We analyse both the screen strategies and their activity on their official Twitter accounts. Although the evening news is the anchor of the prime time and one of the main assets to instil the channels with prestige and influence, the conclusions point to a certain neglect of the social audience from the industry in these key programmes. But mostly, our research reveals how the specificities of the format and the nature of the content distinguish the evening news from other live TV show

Therapeutical interest of statins in the treatment of atherosclerosis

Los inhibidores de la HMG-Co A reductasa o estatinas, son fármacos muy utilizados en el tratamiento de la hipercolesterolemia, ya que consiguen disminuir la concentración plamática de lipoproteína de baja densidad (LDL) regulando la síntesis endógena de colesterol y por tanto, de receptores para LDL. Recientemente se ha comprobado como el tratamiento prolongado con estos fármacos disminuyen la mortalidad y morbilidad cardiovascular. Este fenómeno puede explicarse por los efectos beneficiosos directos de las estatinas en el desarrollo de la placa de ateroma. Las estatinas disminuyen la proliferación y migración de células de musculatura lisa vascular e inducen apoptosis de estas células. También previenen la oxidación de LDL y la formación de células espumosas, reducen la respuesta inflamatoria asociada a la aterosclerosis, normalizan los fenómenos de coagulación y fibrinolisis y por último mejoran significativamente la función endotelial. Todas estas propiedades parecen estar mediadas compuestos isoprenoides intermediarios de la ruta metabólica de la HMG-Co A reductasa, y son indepen- dientes de la concentración de colesterol en el medio. Por tanto, las estatinas también podrían ser utilizadas en enfermedades asociadas a disfunción endotelial indepen- dientemente de las cifras analíticas de LDL, tal y como sucede en la hipertensió
